NEAM was founded in 1984 in a one‑room office in Hartford, Connecticut. Driven by his entrepreneurial, “can‑do” spirit, founder Jerry Lynch recognized a growing need for specialized asset management services tailored specifically to the insurance industry. From that vision, New England Asset Management was formed.

For more than 40 years, NEAM has maintained uninterrupted focus and stable ownership. Since 1995 we have operated under a single owner, General Re Corporation, which in turn was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 1998.
Today, NEAM continues to evolve under the leadership of CEO William (Bill) Rotatori. The company also supports global clients through their Irish subsidiary and UK branch office, enhancing the firm's ability to service clients in the European marketplace.

In 2025, NEAM set up the Gerard T Lynch Scholarship Fund in honor of Jerry’s legacy. The Scholarship Fund assists with college tuition for promising students pursuing higher education and facing financial need from the Hartford area.
